The Lisp Machine had a demo called "Munching Tunes", an audio twist on the Munching Squares display hack.

This is a Stereo, Java Midi Revival of the Munching Tunes demo.

If you don't see the applet running below, you need to install the Java Plug-in, which is part of the J2SE. After installation, you may check the demo applets are running correctly.

If you do, turn on you speakers and hit the "Start" button. It sounds much better with the deluxe soundbank, download it from the Java Sound Soundbanks page and change instruments in the "Midi Program" field.

Interesting seed values are: any odd number, powers of 2 minus 1, primes, multiples of 3... Personal favorites: 27, 31, 43, 63, 97, 127, 247, 255.

This applet uses Swing and the Sound API, and was tested with J2SE 1.4.1, 1.4.2.

Keywords: algorithmic music, computer music, musique algorithmique, informatique musicale.
